Als Gegenleistung verlangte er Seele und Leib des ersten Wesens, das die Br\u00fccke \u00fcberqueren w\u00fcrde. Der Heilige \u00fcberlistete ihn jedoch, indem er eine Katze \u00fcber die Br\u00fccke warf. \u00c4hnliche Geschichten existieren bei vielen sogenannten \u201eTeufelsbr\u00fccken\u201c in Frankreich.\n\nHistorisch belegt ist eine Einsiedelei des heiligen Cado im Fr\u00fchmittelalter auf der Insel Saint-Cado. Im Jahr 1089 wurde sie von Benediktinerm\u00f6nchen der Abtei Sainte-Croix in Quimperl\u00e9 \u00fcbernommen und als Priorat weitergef\u00fchrt. Erste schriftliche Erw\u00e4hnungen des Ortes stammen aus dem 16. Jahrhundert. 1636 beschrieb Fran\u00e7ois-Nicolas Baudot Dubuisson-Aubenay die Br\u00fccke, die Kapelle und das kleine Dorf ausf\u00fchrlich w\u00e4hrend seiner Reise durch die Bretagne.\n\nDie Br\u00fccke bestand damals aus gro\u00dfen aufgeschichteten Steinen ohne M\u00f6rtel und verband das Dorf mit der Insel. Auf der Insel befanden sich die Kapelle des heiligen Cado, das Haus des Priors und einige kleine Geb\u00e4ude. Bereits im 16. Jahrhundert galt Saint-Cado zudem als gesch\u00fctzter Hafen am Fluss \u00c9tel.\n\nAb dem sp\u00e4ten 17. Jahrhundert entwickelte sich der Ort zu einem wichtigen Sardinenhafen. Kaufleute lie\u00dfen sich dort nieder und errichteten Sardinenpressen.
